ATIKA X ONENINENINE by ATIKA London

We caught up with producer oneninenine for a photoshoot and mini Q&A to discuss influences, how he got started and a glimpse into his "commuting music". If you're around this weekend be sure to listen out to his exclusive playlist for our store.

download (98).jpeg

How did you get started?

I've been playing music my whole life, from a young age I was drumming and then progressed onto further instruments. So i was trying to decide what I specifically wanted to do in music and then about a year and half / 2 years ago I saw people around me making beats and thought I could do it. So I literally just downloaded the software and locked myself away to fully get my teeth into it and then it all just clicked if i'm honest.

download (99).jpeg

What was the last song you listened to?

Kevin Taylor - Waves ft. Tokyo the Producer (which I produced lol)

If you weren’t a Producer what would you be doing?

I would love to push more into directing film.

What made you choose the songs on your playlist for us?

I would listen to it on a regular basis - So I guess you'll get a glimpse of my "commuting" music

Who are your top 5 influences in life/art/music etc?

Hanz Zimmer

A lot of cartoons

Graphic novels

Eva Cassidy

My bros around me.

Do you usually shop vintage?

I would say more charity rather than vintage - go splurge in a BHF or Age UK

Tell us a childhood secret?

I actually don't think I have any i'm boring i know - I just liked cartoons.

ATIKA STAFF PICKS by ATIKA London

Meet our ATIKA babe Chloe.  We got her to pick an outfit from our store and here's what she chose!

So how long have you been working at ATIKA?

Around 3 months, well I think - I started when I first moved to London in January.

What’s your job role at ATIKA?

Part of the sales team which also includes flyering - cash me on the corner, how bah dah

What made you choose this piece?

I liked this Remix By Atika shirt dress because I feel as though it’s a nice laid back and easy piece to throw on with not much else required - especially for going to the park with friends in the summer!

Who or what currently inspires you and your style?

Admittedly, I am pretty unadventurous with how I dress - it’s usually just black, white or grey. However, I do like Jane Birkin’s style - the white shirts and blue jeans.

Fave pair of kicks right now?

Black chunky heeled boots! Pretty much the shoes I live in.

What’s the best thing about shopping vintage?

Finding pieces that are original that you know no one else is likely to own.

Fave thing about working at ATIKA?

Definitely the people!

WHITE NEGATIVES x ATIKA by ATIKA London

Get to know João Henriques (@whitenegatives) Photographer & DJ. See below for his exclusive mix, Q&A and mini shoot with our gal Maria Pearl (@mariapearly).

How did you get started?

I really like music, and I do feel, like many people I believe, that music gives me life and helps me to relax. I wanted to start Dj'ing for quite some time ago, about 2-3 years but never had the opportunity or the equipment. But last year (2016) on my birthday, I finally made the decision and had the money to buy a Dj Controller, so I gifted myself a Dj Controller and a pair of monitors.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song that I listened to was Kendrick Lamar - Humble. I have many songs in rotation and I’m always changing the type of music that I’m listening too. I do find myself most of the time listening to new artist on Soundcloud.

download (94).jpeg

If you weren’t a Photographer & DJ what would you be doing?

Before Photography and Music I had a passion for Computers, and I was studying for it. So I think I would be doing that.

What made you choose the songs on your mix for us?

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create a mix with different flavours and types of music. Normally with my mix’s I start really slow and then build up the intensity. The fact that this mix was a collaboration with you guys, A brand/shop, I wanted to create a mix with the interpretation of a journey, where it had parts where the costumers could chill or actually dance while they’re shopping if they want to. A mix with different styles put together, to symbolise a journey so it could comprise different types of costumers and their taste.

download (95).jpeg

Who are your top 5 influences in life/art/music etc?

My Grandfather/my Mum. Seeing my close friends doing what they love and being creative, Steve Jobs, Kanye West, Viviane Sassen.

Do you usually shop vintage?

Actually I don’t, but I do intend to start shopping more. You can truly find some gems at Vintage shops.

Tell us a childhood secret?

My childhood nickname is “Ary”.

ATIKA MEETS x ANNABEL by ATIKA London

We caught up with presenter and influencer ΛNNΛBEL (@annabelstopit) and asked her to make a playlist of her choice for our store! See below for our Q&A with the mega babe, listen to her playlist and find out why now after visiting ATIKA she'll definitely be shopping vintage.

download (93).jpeg

Hey Annabel, tell us a little about how you got started?

I originally moved to London to work on my own music, but when it came to submitting a final project for uni, I wasn’t ready to release anything. So instead I launched my own blog where I interviewed other artists about their journey in the industry and it ended up doing quite well. I was lucky enough to get a place on a mentorship programme with Sian Anderson and Julie Adenuga and a few months later, I landed my own radio show - and I’m loving it! But who knows? Maybe one day I’ll drop an album.

What was the last song you listened to?

Get Right Witcha - Migos

If you weren’t a presenter/influencer, what would you be doing?

I’d be a rapper with dreads and gold teeth and I’d probably have no fans.

What made you choose the songs on your playlist for us?

It’s everything I wanna hear while I’m shopping - fresh UK tunes, classic hip-hop joints and a dash of pop. People will be skanking in the changing rooms.

Who are your top 5 influences in life/art/music etc?

I stumble across new inspiration every single day but five people who consistently get me out of bed in the morning (not physically) are Yes Julz, Maya Jama, Julie Adenuga, Caroline SM & Young Thug.

Do you usually shop vintage?

I feel like it’s a whole world I knew nothing about - but now Blitz has shown me the ropes, I’m addicted.

Tell us a childhood secret?

I used to wear matching silk gloves with all of my outfits because I thought I was Lady GaGa… actually, that was quite recently.
